Press Release

Raquel Wilson’s desire to host a brunch came from her yearning to connect with other women of color while on the journey to pursue her first masters degree. She states, “I wanted to get some encouragement and support and could not find anyone.” Raquel is an advocate for foster youth. During a high school outreach tour, she had the opportunity to speak with multiple young girls who need mentorship and encouragement too, so she created a space where everyone could be in one room to honor and celebrate our excellence and empowerment.

The 2018 Women of Color Empowerment Brunch, engaged 60 women including 10 panelists who either owned their own business or aspired to be a business owner the platform to network and share business ideas.  All 10 panelists were honored for being women in business that remained focused and dedicated to their dreams. It was an intimate but open space where we discussed a range of topics such as mental health, financial literacy, money management, etc.
In addition, a vision board activity was implemented in efforts to motivate the attendees to take their dreams to the next level and shape them into concrete aspirations. We did all this while enjoying a delicious breakfast of shrimp & grits, traditional breakfast foods, and assorted fruit & snacks.

The Empower Her Project believes women should feel inspired and empowered in every aspect of their lives. We want to create an intimate space where women can gather to network and share resources-inspire to revive old goals, make new ones, and move towards them.

Thank you to all are attendees. We hope to see you at our next event.

Empowerment & Beyond

The community service initiative is created in honor of women’s month and will be dedicated to homeless women in the Inglewood/Hawthorne area. At a location, we will serve the homeless community by passing out hygiene products. In addition, we have invited professionals of the barber community to give out free haircuts to these women as well.
